Check This Out : Enough Singles… Where Are The Albums?

In a land of bad lyrics, and a time of ‘pom-pom’ beats, the fate of the music industry rests in the hands of a lone ranger, his name; Album!!!!

So picture this, we have tens of A- to B-list artists, hundreds of C- to E-list artists, thousands of Z-list artists and tens of thousands of upcoming artists, yet they are all dragging for one space in the same music industry; they are all dropping singles, upon singles, and even more singles… without an album in sight for the foreseeable future.

A lot of A-list artists spend about a year or two releasing many singles and then complain when they drop albums that do not sell. Why didn’t it sell, they ask? Why will it? When in a 12-track album, you spent the better part of the year or two releasing seven of the twelve songs on the album as singles.

What is it with Nigerian musicians continuously releasing singles and no albums? Wande Coal, D’Banj, Simi, Timaya, Wizkid, and Reminisce, usually spend/have spent the better part of a year or two releasing singles we have grown tired of jamming and now the lust for their albums are almost dead and gone.

What’s left of the Mavins are also really impressing in this department of releasing singles on singles.

The likes of Falz, Olamide, Phyno, Burna Boy, and P-Square usually release about 4 singles before dropping their albums, and their albums are always hits because they satisfy our lusts at the right times.

Jay Z didn’t release any single before dropping 4:44, Kendrick released just two singles before releasing DAMN., and many other A-list artists in the abroad usually do the same thing. I remember Diddy’s Press Play album was released without any single or anticipation whatsoever.

Yea, yea, you are probably saying “We can’t compare to them!” Well, who says we have to compare? we don’t just need the uncountable number of singles flying around the airwaves of Nigeria.

What’s the point of comparing for space in the ‘singles’ department, when the ‘albums’ department is filled with cobwebs and too much silence too much dust?
